About Gryter
An adaptive AI fitness coach, built by one engineer who got tired of the choice between rigid programs and gimmicky AI workouts.
What Gryter is
Gryter is an adaptive AI fitness coach for iOS and Android. It writes your next workout — strength, muscle building, and conditioning — and adjusts every session to your recovery and progress, across four phases: BASELINE, BUILD, PUSH, and RECOVER. Built for anyone serious about training, from your first month to your tenth year.
The four phases are not labels for marketing. BASELINE establishes movement quality and a sustainable starting volume. BUILD grows your work capacity. PUSH peaks intensity and tests progress. RECOVER restores readiness. Phases advance based on your data — completed sessions, logged effort, and consistency — not based on a calendar timer. The same structure works for a true beginner, an intermediate trying to add weight to the bar, and a returning lifter coming back after a break.
Gryter runs on iOS and Android. First 3 sessions free. No ads. No data sale.
Who built Gryter
Founder: Abid Waqar. Engineer and lifter. Solo founder shipping the MVP. Connect on LinkedIn.
From the founder: I built Gryter because the apps I wanted didn't exist. On one side were rigid programs — a fixed twelve-week plan, a 5x5 spreadsheet, anything where week 7 looks identical for me and the next person who downloaded it. On the other side were AI workout generators that shuffled exercises out of a list and called it intelligence. The first never adapted. The second wasn't structured. I wanted a coach in my pocket, not a template and not a chatbot. So I built it.
Why the four-phase model: every meaningful program in the strength and hypertrophy world goes through some version of this — establish, grow, peak, recover, repeat. It is the consensus structure for how training actually works. The novelty in Gryter is not the structure; it is that the structure runs on its own, every session, in your pocket, and adapts to what you actually did last week. And the reason there are no ads and no data sale is simple: I don't want to build a business that's at war with its own users. The product gets better when its incentives are aligned with yours.
Our principles
- Coach, not a logger. Gryter writes the program. You don't walk in already knowing what to train.
- Structure, not gimmicks. Real periodization across BASELINE, BUILD, PUSH, RECOVER. The session you get next is part of a plan.
- Adapt to the human, not the calendar. Phases advance based on your data, not on a timer.
- Privacy-first: no advertising, never sell data. Your training history stays in your account.
Roadmap
Gryter is at MVP. The product today is focused. The product tomorrow may be broader — but only as far as we can build well.
- Today: training program generation, four-phase periodization, recovery-aware progression, progress tracking by lift and phase.
- Coming: nutrition coaching.
One honest note: the roadmap can shift based on what real users tell us. If the people actually using Gryter ask for something we hadn't considered, that goes ahead of plans we made in isolation. We'd rather build the right thing slowly than the wrong thing on schedule.
